In-home support

In-home support incorporates a number services that can be customised to each person’s or family’s needs.

Companion Care

This group of services include companionship and assistance with daily activities. If the person is living alone or family visits are infrequent, having social contact with others is important to personal happiness and feelings of worth. Whether a social cup of tea and chat or assistance with keeping house or errands and shopping, we can assist. Companion Care services include:

  • Companionship and conversation
  • Help with hobbies and interests

Personal Care

Personal care involves more personal assistance that an individual may need. A number of older adults have increasing difficulty with bathing and manipulating clothing and closures. Personal care involves more intimate care or assistance with bathing (whether this is safety stand-by, or assistance with the washing and drying), assistance with dressing as needed and grooming. Personal Care services include:

Acute and Post-Hospital services

If you or a family member are scheduled for surgery, or following a medical problem, the process can be overwhelming. Not only coping with surgery, but the worry that accompanies unexpected surgery or medical illness can throw life into turmoil. Senior Helpers have services to help smooth the process and give you peace of mind.

Day Surgery Support

Senior Helpers can support you or a family member throughout the Day Surgery experience. If a family member is not able to be there with their loved one, our experienced staff can step in for you. Services can be adapted to your own situation and can include:

  • Accompanying the client to preoperative appointments
  • Transport to and from Day Surgery
  • Companionship during the recovery time
  • Staying overnight
  • Accompanying the client to postoperative appointments

Peace of Mind Service

If surgery or hospitalisation has been due to an emergency, it is not unusual for the patient to be concerned about home and even pets left alone. Senior Helpers’ Peace of Mind service can be the solution. Services can be adapted to need and include:

  • Tidying the home in preparation for return from hospital
  • Laundry and linen changing
  • Attending to pet and plant care

Security watch of the home

  • Taking out and returning the bin
  • Collecting the mail
  • Discarding any spoiled food from the fridge
  • Shopping for essentials when you are ready to return home

Sitter Services

There are times where you are not available to stay for prolonged periods with a loved one who is in hospital or who may be living in residential care and has become unwell. Sitter Services are an ideal solution. One of Senior Helpers’ skilled and compassionate staff can monitor and be a companion to your loved one so that you can have some respite or be able to continue with essential life activities knowing that your loved one is being supported. Services are available by the hour (2-hour minimum), overnight or 24/7.

Sitter Services can include:

  • Companionship in hospitals
  • Companionship in residential care
  • Companionship in the home
  • Specialised and skilled staff are available to provide support to persons experiencing the changes associated with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

After-hospital support

Returning home after an acute illness or surgery is daunting. Although we look forward to being at home and to sleep in our own bed again, the reality is, our energy levels and often our physical abilities are temporarily altered because of the surgery or illness. Senior Helpers offers non-medical support services tailored to meet the needs of adults of any age returning home after hospitalisation. Services include Companion and Personal care and can be arranged pre-hospitalisation or when preparing for discharge. You can design your preferred services or select one of our Post-hospital Packages.

Prime Package (4 weeks)

3 hours of domestic assistance per week
3 hours of personal care support per week until independent (additional hours become social support)
3 hours of meal preparation per week
2 hours of shopping, errands

Superior Package (6 weeks)

3 hours of domestic assistance per week
5 hours of personal care assistance per week until independent (additional hours become social support)
5 hours of meal preparation per week
6 hours of shopping, errands

Premium Package (12 weeks)

3 hours of domestic assistance per week
6 hours of personal care per week until independent (additional hours become social support)
5 hours of meal preparation per week

Respite services

There are many reasons to utilise respite services. If you are a full-time carer for a family member, or a family carer who does not live with the person needing care, there are times where you are called away from your home or caring role and need to find a reliable person to support your relative or partner in your absence. Senior Helpers are experienced providers of regular, periodic and emergency respite. From 2 hours to 24 hours per day, we are only a phone call away.

Wellness Watch

When you need to travel for extended periods with business or take an extended annual holiday, leaving an elderly relative behind is a concern, even if they are well and independent. Sometimes the telephone or Skype are just not enough. Senior Helpers’ Wellness Watch is a non-invasive service that is available to keep contact with your loved one while you are away. Services can be customised to your needs and preferences. However, the basic program consists of:

  • Weekly phone call from a delegated member of our staff
  • A one-hour visit for a cup of tea and companionship every two weeks with our staffdelegate
  • A sole point of contact for you in relation to your family member
  • A monthly report from our team delegate regarding your relative’s wellbeing.
